At K9 Paws Behavior Dog Training,
we offer a distinctive service dog training program designed to empower owners and handlers. Our philosophy is rooted in teaching you how to raise and train your own service dog, fostering a strong bond and ensuring effective training outcomes.
At K9 Paws Behavior Dog Training, we pride ourselves on delivering unparalleled service dog training that stands out in the industry. Here’s what makes us unique:
Certified Expertise Marsha Durfee, our lead trainer, is a Certified Master Service Dog Trainer with over 19 years of experience. Her hands-on approach ensures that each owner and dog receive a customized training program tailored to their specific needs. Marsha’s expertise ensures that each service dog is individually task-trained to support their handler, maintaining high standards that uncertified trainers cannot match.
Specialized Stress Test The training process begins with a specialized Stress Test developed by Marsha. This test evaluates the dog's ability to handle the demanding work of a service dog. With Marsha’s extensive experience, she understands the stress involved for both the dog and handler, ensuring the dog’s suitability for the role.
Affordability K9 Paws Behavior Dog Training offers the most affordable service dog training in the Tri-State area. Unlike other programs, we do not require you to purchase training tools, treats, or other materials from us, making our program accessible and cost-effective.
Ongoing Training Philosophy Service dog training is a continuous process. Unlike other trainers who may claim a dog can be fully trained, we recognize that maintaining task proficiency is an ongoing effort. This approach ensures that both the owner and the dog continually work together to keep their skills sharp.
Compliance with ADA Standards Under ADA Federal Law, no certification, vest, or ID is required for service dogs. However, we include a public access test with the certifying organization ASCTI, costing $85 annually, which we cover in detail during our classes. This test helps ensure that the service dog can perform effectively in public settings.
Practical Recommendations While ADA does not mandate a vest, we recommend using one during work to help the dog understand when they are on duty. Marsha’s personal experience with her service dog highlights the benefits of using a vest to signal work mode. Additionally, we suggest having a photo ID with emergency contact numbers for the dog, which can be crucial if the handler is incapacitated.
Comprehensive Support Our commitment extends beyond training. We provide continuous support and education to ensure both the dog and handler are prepared for any situation. Our focus on practical, real-world training and support sets us apart from other programs.
